What is it about Hollywood that so fascinates people from around the world? It's flashy but tasteful, bold but classy, opulent without being ostentatious. But while you may think you need to spend millions on a top interior decorator and a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive, homify has all the tips you need right here to give even the most modest apartment all of the stylistic flourish of a Beverly Hills mansion – straight from the minds of our world-class interior designers.

We've all dreamed of living the luxury lifestyle of a movie star, but we're here to tell you that you don't need fame and fortune to live in a home fit for hollywood royalty. While you may not have the budget of an Oscar winner, with a few carefully chosen design features you can deck your home out to look fabulous whatever your price range.

So without further ado, here's some tips to glamourise your home without breaking the bank.

1. Chandeliers everywhere!

Now we know what your thinking, but we're not talking crystal here, plain glass will do, and you can pick them up second hand. In fact it doesn't even need to be a chandelier, as long as your light fittings are more than a bulb on a string.

Bathe your house in sumptuous light with warm colours and elaborate light fixtures to get a Hollywood feel, and yes, even in the bathroom! Remember – nothing's too good for a star like yourself.

2. Monochromatic glamour

Ever since the first films appeared on the silver screen black and white has been associated with the allure of Hollywood, and it's still a great way to introduce a little splendour into your home. A black and white colour palette is easy to achieve on any budget; it's bold, it's classy, and it's oh-so-Hollywood. We also love the way they have harkened back to the golden age of cinema with the vintage wall mural.

3. Vintage furniture

As the saying goes they just don't make them like they used to, and this certainly applies to furniture. While we're certainly not complaining about the evolution of style, or modern decor, we can't help but miss a little of the grandeur of vintage furniture.

But the upside is now it's all second hand! Take your time with this one, as it will require some shopping around at antique stores or online, but when you find that special piece that just oozes splendour it will all be worth it.

4. Focus on the bathroom

Sometimes we can't afford to refurbish our whole house like we're Hollywood stars, or maybe you're the humble type. The bathroom is a great but oft forgotten place to create a sense of luxury.

There's nothing more Hollywood than a glass of Champagne while reclining in a bubble bath, so consider focusing your interior decorating efforts on the bathroom, that means large mirrors, smooth high gloss surfaces, and gold fittings… not real gold, mind you!

5. A four poster bed

Nothing spells opulence like a four poster bed, and with a little DIY spirit you don't need to go rushing out to spend all your savings; just build a simple frame, and hang some curtains.

The key here is materials, the softest and most luxurious you can afford, but you can always make up for it with sheer volume. Pile it up with as many duvets, comforters, and pillows as you can get your hands on, you're worth it!

6. Little touches of luxury

The trick to a Hollywood home is enabling yourself the Hollywood lifestyle; that means espresso in the morning, and cocktails in the evening, in other words; luxury. So consider small touches to your house that will enable you to enjoy the finer things, that means lots of surfaces, like this ottoman, and accessories like breakfast trays, fine coffee cups, or cocktail glasses.

When you splash out on the small things you can feel like royalty without having to refinance your house.

7. A walk-in wardrobe

A walk-in wardrobe is an absolute must for any Hollywood star – where else are you going to fit all those designer clothes? And by designer we mean vintage items picked up at a thrift store, of course. A walk-in wardrobe is a great addition to your home, and doesn't have to be expensive, it may just be a matter of repurposing an unused cupboard or utility room for a far more glamorous use; fashion! All you need is a full length mirror and as many shelves as you can fit, and you're ready to spend an evening trying on every gown you have until you find the one that's just right for the red carpet.

Remember your pay packet doesn't have to limit how fabulous your home is! If you're looking for a little more glamour in your life, check out this article.
