The seven deadly sins represent the worst aspects of humanity. They're also known as the capital vices, offences from which all other wrongdoing stems. Having said that, as we all know, sometimes doing wrong can feel so right, and while these transgressions may threaten your very soul, they can also result in fantastically opulent and luxurious homes! That's why today we're going to take a look at seven fabulous projects, and connect them to these cardinal sins, to show you that rules were made to be broken!

When talking about the basic tenets of design restraint is a value that comes up a lot, but no rule is fixed, and in fact sometimes the best results come from just letting go, and following your wildest ambitions. This article is all about creativity, and taking inspiration from some of our more questionable impulses, but using design expertise to turn that into something wonderful. So join us as we have a little bit of fun with the seven deadly sins!

1. A breakdown of the seven deadly sins

This moody facade seems like the perfect place to start, with ominous clouds warning us of the terribly fabulous projects to come! So first let's take a look at exactly what the seven deadly sins are.

Greed: Perhaps the most common sin, greed is seeking more than you need, a rapacious desire for material possessions.

Pride: Pride has been called the worst of the seven deadly sins, as it is putting your own needs above others due to a belief in your own superiority, even to God.

Envy: This is the desire for others' possessions, or a belief that you are more deserving of another's achievements.

Sloth: Simply put, sloth is laziness. We're all guilty of being lazy every now and then, and if fact we often design our bedrooms and living rooms specifically to enable it!

Wrath: The most destructive sin, wrath is uncontrolled anger, rage, or hatred, that most often manifests in the pursuit of vengeance.

Gluttony: Gluttony represents consumption to the point of waste, a particularly grievous sin in a religion that defines itself by caring for the poor and needy.

Lust: Lust is uncontrolled desire, whether it be sexual, or the pursuit of money or power. Lust has been characterised as allowing yourself to become a slave to the devil, but since the devil wears Prada, from a design perspective that may not be such a bad thing!

1. Pride: a superb terrace

If you believe yourself to be equal to a king, then it's only natural you should want a fabulous vantage point from which to survey your kingdom, and this marvellous terrace nails it. A luxurious spa pool sits on a balcony at the top of the world offering panoramic views of the magnificent surroundings, and with a terrace this beautiful they deserve to be proud!

Greed: a wonderful entranceway

Greed is all about keeping your possessions to yourself, which is why it is best defined by the entrance to your home. While heavy fences and private property or beware of dog signs may keep potential intruders out, the entrance is where we decide who may enter our home and enjoy the fruits of our labour. This entrance is set up perfectly; it's warmly lit, and has plenty of storage options to keep it clear of clutter.

Lust: the bedroom of course!

You don't have to think too hard about why the room that best represents uncontrolled desire is the bedroom, and this example is set up for one thing only! In fact this is a really good approach to bedroom design; keeping the furnishing to a minimum makes it a much more comfortable and spacious area, and outside of a closet, most other furniture like chairs and desks are usually better suited to other rooms in the house, leaving the bedroom to serve its main purpose… sleeping!

Envy: jealousy in the hallway

Hallways very rarely get the love they deserve from a design perspective, as they are seen as purely functional spaces and treated as a decorative afterthought. This hallway however wants to look just as fabulous as the other rooms in the house, and when you see how stunning it looks with the gorgeous artwork on the wall you have to ask yourself; why shouldn't it get equal treatment!

Gluttony: a well stocked kitchen

If you like to overindulge when it comes to food, then this is definitely the kitchen for you! It is brimming with gold and copper utensils and kitchen supplies, quaint crockery, and huge heavy timber countertops for preparing massive feasts! We love the combination of rustic and vintage elements; if you're going to spend most of your time in the kitchen you can't do any better than this!

Wrath: seething in the bathroom

The bathroom is a place of quiet reflection, whether that's soaking in the tub, or grooming in the mirror. Unfortunately that makes it a common place to get stuck inside your own head, going over and over all the wrongs committed to you in the course of a day. If this sounds like you then you're going to want a cooling, calming bathroom like this one, with a black feature wall representing the nothingness of nirvana, and blue details promoting tranquility.

Sloth: a gloriously comfortable living room

While you may think your laziest moments are when you spend that extra hour in bed, it's the living room where we really let sloth control us. We can't think of a better spot to do nothing than this cosy and inviting living room, with a massive plush sofa parked right in front of the fireplace. The pitched roof catches the heat, while the rich timber of the rafters and the stone pillars make it feel like a country cottage. Make sure that you prepare all your snacks and drinks before you sit down, because you're not going to want to get up again!
