In this IdeaBook we are going to explore the results of an exceptional lighting project, created by Multiforme Lighting for the restoration of Galli Theatre in Rimini, realising 330 custom-made lamps and the imposing classic, bronze-finished chandelier with 48 lights dominating the main room.

For this complex lighting project Multiforme Lighting developed and realised a depth of lighting appliances, ranging from the appliquès for the stalls, the proscenium, the corridors and the foyer to the unique griffon-shaped floor lamps for the boxes.

The project, developed and finished in a short period of time, was based on the original designs created during the mid-18th Century by the Neoclassic architect Luigi Poletti, in particular for the classic chandelier, and it was then carried out using state-of-the art techniques and innovative materials, with the highest contemporary standards in regards of performance and safety.

The unique mix between innovative technologies and softwares, high quality materials and an artisanal approach to production represents the real added value of a project that is capable of bringing together the lighting capabilities and the style, the durability and the sustainability of all the lighting appliances created by Multiforme Lighting for the Galli Theatre.

1. A restoration of excellence

The majestic classic chandelier created by Multiforme Lighting represents the peak of the rather intense restoration effort of the Galli Theatre, a project that lasted over five year and brought together some of the best companies of the made in Italy, in a collaborative effort coordinated by Prof. Francesco Amendolagine, former supervisor of the renovation of La Fenice Theatre in Venice.

2. Quality lighting

This detail of custom-created for the Galli Theatre, shows the richness of materials and finishings, in line with the original project but realised using the best todays materials and technologies.

3. Spectacular results

The incredible restoration work has achieved the spectacular results we can see, reaching an international recognition from such outlets as the Time Magazine, which selected the Galli Theatre among the Greatest Places of 2019.

4. Details

Based on the original mid-18th Century drawings by Arch. Poletti and on fragments recovered on the original construction site of the Theatre, the wall artisanal lamps are made with the same materials then used to build the classic central chandelier, namely steel, brass, bronze fusions, Murano glass and pure gold fusions.

5. Classy lamps

The high-end finishings match the lighting performances, in a perfect example of made in Italy excellence, that is capable of bringing together tradition and innovation.

6. Griffon lamps

On the balcony of the first and second level boxes are installed a series of three-globe floor lamps in Murano glass: the refined griffon-shaped base is inspired by the very Galli Theatre's symbol. Handicraft and innovation coexist: the finest materials and design are mixed together with state-of-the-art anti-seismic technologies, to make the lamps safe for the audience even in case of sudden oscillations.

7. The classic central chandelier

At the heart of the whole restoration project, the large central chandelier catches the eye: its main structure, made of stainless steel covered with cast bronze and brass, measures 4 metres in height and 4 metres in diameter and weighs around 600 kilos. The chandelier develops through a sunburst of 48 globes of Murano glass, arranged in two layers, polished entirely by hand.

7. 1 The classic central chandelier

The light-holding globes in Murano glass were polished through an acid-etching technique aimed at avoiding dazzling issues and at allowing the most even and soft diffusion of the light.

7. 2 The classic central chandelier

Garlands of Bohemia crystals enrich the lower body of the central chandelier, with different shapes such as octagons, drops and diamonds, creating endless effects of light refraction. The whole structure of the chandelier underwent a pure gold galvanic treatment in order to protect the durability of its precious surfaces.
